Believe it or not, North Las Vegas is a completely separate city from Las Vegas. At the northern end of the Las Vegas Valley, North Las Vegas is becoming one of Nevada’s fastest growing cities; in fact, the city was recently named the second fastest growing city in the country. Ideally located, North Las Vegas is within close proximity to recreational activities such as fishing, skiing, hiking, biking, camping, and sightseeing available year-round.

Consisting of 500 miles of shoreline, Lake Mead is just a few miles from North Las Vegas. Just a 30-minute drive from North Las Vegas, Mt Charleston offers residents the opportunity to snow ski, hike, camp, and picnic. Just to name a few activities within the city limits, areas within the community provide the opportunity to see a movie, bowl, ice skate, and golf. Being one of southern Nevada’s largest employers, Nellis Air Force Base is just a few miles to the east of the city. Of course, it is also the home of the famous United States Air Force Thunderbirds.

The 78.25 square-mile City is surrounded by majestic mountains, desert valleys and a region of practically unstoppable growth. North Las Vegas History

This is an exciting time in the history of North Las Vegas. The City of North Las Vegas was incorporated in 1946 and is located in Clark County in Southern Nevada. North Las Vegas encompasses more than 78 square miles and stretches across the northern rim of the Las Vegas Valley. The population of North Las Vegas grew by 142% from 1990 to 2000. Over 140,000 residents live in North Las Vegas and approximately 1,000 new residents make it home each month. Estimations put the population at over 511,000 by the year 2020.

North Las Vegas, known as the “Community of Choice” continues to be in the spotlight with new master planned communities, recreation, and business opportunities. Becoming one of the major metropolitan cities in the southwest, North Las Vegas is known for its successful development of residential, commercial and industrial communities. With the unprecedented growth and development, North Las Vegas is an attractive, affordable alternative to Las Vegas and Henderson.

The city offers several beautiful Master Planned Communities with homes, stores, schools, commercial development. Excellent employment opportunities are available. Located in the Golden Triangle, close to Las Vegas downtown and "strip" with easy access via I-15 and US 95. The community is very involved in high-tech business centers, commercial centers and new housing developments for every budget! North Las Vegas is affordable and convenient. It is surrounded by mountains, making it very picturesque. North Las Vegas is a great alternative to Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada.

The State of Nevada does not collect personal income tax, corporate tax, inheritance tax, estate and/or gift tax, and the property taxes are low. North Las Vegas Housing

Although North Las Vegas has tripled in population since 1990, home prices are still among the most affordable in southern Nevada. There are beautiful new homes, as well as resale homes available to suit your needs. Home sizes range from 1,200 to more than 3,000 square feet. Many homebuilders have chosen North Las Vegas for their new housing developments as the demand for housing in this growing area continues. The future is also promising with the extensive open desert areas allowing for future developments.

A major factor in the city’s development is the near completion of the new Las Vegas Beltway which leads from North Las Vegas to Henderson. Because of the easy access to the Beltway, the entire Las Vegas region is open for opportunity to the North Las Vegas residents. The phenomenal growth in the North Las Vegas region benefits the community through the extensive employment opportunities, attractive housing, and construction of new resort properties.

Both the Master Planned Communities of Aliante and Eldorado have been beautifully planned with stores, schools and commercial development to provide the needs of the community.

ALIANTE - North Las Vegas is home to the newly developing community of Aliante, a development of Del Webb Corp. and American Nevada Corp. This community offers two distinct “Villages” - one a traditional, family village with homes, townhouses, and condominiums and the other an Age-Qualified Retirement village with many homes on the community Golf Course. This 18 hole Golf Course is only one feature of the community that also boasts of its interconnecting trails, a Nature Discovery Park, new schools, library, fire station and new retail and commercial development. Aliante features beautiful mountain views, convenience via I-215 and US 95 and unique recreational facilities and attractions.

ELDORADO - One of the more distinguished developers in North Las Vegas is Pardee Homes. Developer of Eldorado and Eldorado Highlands, the company has 1,900 acres of land on which they plan a new Master Planned Community in North Las Vegas. The new plan includes housing, commercial properties, community parks, schools and public facilities. With new schools, shops and parks, this is an attractive choice among home buyers.

North Las Vegas Parks and Recreation

The Parks and Recreation Department of the City of North Las Vegas purpose is to provide a quality of life to make available to the citizens of North Las Vegas a diversity of open spaces, parks, and leisure opportunities. These services are delivered in a professional, courteous manner, with a dedication to ethical standards and responsiveness to changing community needs and priorities.

With two recreation centers (the Neighborhood Recreation Center and the Silver Mesa Recreation Center, and 28 parks totaling 345 acres, North Las Vegas offers recreational activities for the entire family. Along with the City’s neighborhood and community parks, school/joint use parks, other special areas include a sports complex, a historical site, a golf course, a regional park, and a linear park along a desert wash, which are available to North Las Vegas’ residents. Of course, a priority for the city is to continue to develop and provide quality recreational facilities. The North Las Vegas Parks & Recreation Department offers programs for toddlers through seniors at two recreation centers. Activities include: pre-school, arts & crafts, sports, fitness, dance, music, and special interest classes. Each facility is also outfitted with fitness rooms with modern equipment to help citizens improve their fitness level and strength.

The newer Aliante Development will also include more than 400 additional acres of parks and open space, including trail systems when the entire community is completed.

For seniors, the North Las Vegas Neighborhood Recreation Center offers senior citizens the opportunity to participate in a variety of events such as bridge, pinochle, crafts, barbecues, excursions, health screenings, immunizations, music, breakfast, lunch, and many other activities.

North Las Vegas Regional Recreational Activities

Away from the man-made excitement of Las Vegas is a world of natural beauty unlike any place else on this earth. People who love nature appreciate the central location of desert living in the Las Vegas Valley. Being situated near recreational areas such as Lake Mead National Recreational Area, Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Valley of Fire State Park, Spring Mountains National Conservation Area, Toiyabe National Forest with snow skiing, hiking and camping available on Mt. Charleston, and the Las Vegas Speedway, North Las Vegas is ideally located in the Las Vegas Valley.

Within minutes, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area consisting of 500 miles of shoreline offers great opportunities for boating, sailing, jet skiing, fishing, water-skiing, camping, and windsurfing and happens to be one of the most frequented National Recreation Areas in the United States. Created by Hoover Dam, the lake is the largest man-made lake in the world.

Escape to the red sandstone formations at Red Rock Nature Preserve or stop off at the Valley of Fire State Park to enjoy year round activities such as hiking, climbing, repelling, riding horseback, or camping.

Beautiful peaks with redwood forests in the surrounding mountains provide an opportunity to get away from the desert heat in the summer. Winter provides the opportunity to get into snow country with just a short 30-minute drive North to Mt. Charleston offering residents the opportunity to snow-ski from November to April at Lee Canyon. Hiking, camping, and other activities can also be enjoyed at Mount Charleston year-round.

Within 2-4 hours, you can even be in some of the most beautiful territories in the world including Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, and of course, the Grand Canyon. The awesome Utah ski country is also a short distance away where one may enjoy some of the best skiing anywhere in the country.

North Las Vegas Climate

Offering the finest in quality of life amenities, North Las Vegas is at an elevation of 1,940 feet above sea level. The Las Vegas Valley enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine every year and has an average daily temperature of 80.7 degrees with humidity in the mid 20’s. The weather is ideal for enjoying the parks and trails within our community. Yes, North Las Vegas is part of a desert providing a climate ideal for active lifestyles, but remember that summer days can have temperatures exceeds 115 degrees. The winters are generally fairly mild with temperatures only occasionally going below freezing but the average daytime temperatures are in the 50’s. While snowfall in the city is infrequent, the mountain areas receive enough snowfall in nearby Mt. Charleston to make the area a popular skiing location.

Elementary and Secondary Schools

North Las Vegas is part of the Clark County School District, the 6th largest school district in the United States. More information can be found at their web site, www.ccsd.net. One feature of North Las Vegas is its Safekey program. The North Las Vegas Parks & Recreation Department provides before and after school supervised recreation available onsite at schools in North Las Vegas. This program is coordinated through the City of North Las Vegas’ Safekey program.

Higher Education

The Community College of Southern Nevada and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas are the two most significant institutions in the Valley. However, the Valley also offers more than 60 vocational and business training schools for specialized educational needs.

Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN)

North Las Vegas is home for the main campus of the Community College of Southern Nevada (CCSN). CCSN is one of the biggest and one of the best community colleges in the country. Three campus locations serve over 26,000 students in 17 different fields. Among the top disciplines at CCSN are dental hygiene (#2 in the country), culinary arts (#3 in the country), computing and information technologies, resorts and gaming, nursing and other health professions, automotive technology, air conditioning and criminal justice.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
Within a short drive, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is growing almost as fast as the city in which it is located. The student body is now over 20,000 plus over 4,000 graduate students. UNLV offers more than 148 undergraduate, masters and doctoral programs in its eight colleges. UNLV is nationally recognized for its hotel management, criminal justice and social work programs. Other programs of significance are the university's business, real estate, computer science, arts, recreation, architecture, and construction management disciplines.

North Las Vegas Transportation

Transportation

McCarran Airport, which serves the Las Vegas Valley, is one of the top ten busiest airports in the nation. The Clark County Department of Aviation is constantly expanding and remodeling the airport to meet the needs of the community. The North Las Vegas Airport, located on Rancho Drive, is also managed by the Clark County Department of Aviation. This airport is used for small and privately owned aircraft. Bus service is provided via the Citizens Area Transit (CAT) mass transit system. CAT transports more than 2.5 million passengers per month. The buses offer 24 hour service in the downtown and strip areas, and 20 hour service to residential areas. In addition to the CAT bus system, a sleek, new modern bus called MAX (Metropolitan Area Express) has come to North Las Vegas. MAX made its debut in the Las Vegas Valley in 2003.
